Delta Air Lines considers bringing N. Dakota crude to its Phila. refinery

GasBuddy Blog -- Delta Air Lines says that it is looking into buying cheaper North Dakota crude oil to feed its new refinery near Philadelphia, instead of the more expensive overseas crude that has fed the refinery in the past.

Delta bought the idled Conoco Phillips refinery at Trainer, Pa., in June. Like most East Coast refineries, it has refined mostly Brent North Sea oil that arrives by ship and is priced in London.

Brent crude has been consistently more expensive than the West Texas Intermediate crude that governs pricing for oil from North Dakota. On Thursday, WTI futures were almost $18 per barrel cheaper than those for Brent crude.

According to the Associated Press, North Dakota oil would come by train to Delta’s refinery...

It all depends on the size of your backyard and if you want to live with the smell.

I don't think there is. Delta plans to use tanker trains for the oil (as it is stated in the article - just read).

Got to reduce costs somehow. They got rid of the middleman in getting the fuel from the refinery to the airport, now they're reducing their raw material cost

IF domestic crude is cheaper than foreign, and IF Obama says we don't need foreign oil anymore, WHY is gasoline so high!?!??

It's what the orig. owners of the refinery should have thought of but Big Oil would rather shut refineries down as it ups their profit margin in the long run.

I think natural gas is the way of the future for now. Also use clean coal and oil drilled here in the USA!

It makes sense to buy and use cheaper domestic crude oil than import the foreign expensive stuff. Make more jet fuel and if there is room and time, produce fuel for gas stations too. Make sure the rail lines are in very good condition for the extra train traffic AND there are NO derailments of crude oil (are you listening T Boone?). Build a refinery at the source of the oil and an airport to fuel the planes? Now lower the cost of your airplane tickets and NO extra charges either! Less oil, more renewable energy!
Idled refineries, just How many are there anyway?
Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, has a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

This will help with jobs, revive the railroads and become less dependent on foreign oil. No thanks to Obama's policies, just American problem solving. But if it works out, he will take credit of course because they couldn't have built it themselves.
