some are probably really bad. Others are made out to be bad choices.

i thought the isetta was a cute car, though not all that useful. i rode in one once. i would call it a failed experiment by bayrische motorenwerke. i was surprised that the american motors® models mentioned in the article did not make it. they were ghastly cars! also, certainly the “exploding” ford® pinto™ was a disaster. my two candidates for this list were the 1968 ford® custom 500™ and plymouth® satellite™. the former had a problem with the accelerator pump, either not working or not being there. in order to start from stop, one had to pump the accelerator pedal rapidly and light (maybe a quarter or less of the way) to avoid stalling. also, the heater dampers were poorly designed and the fan would not stop when the system was turned off so it would blow cold air in winter. ridiculous! the latter had motorized dampers also, but they had not been tested in winter conditions, with the result that the heater failed the first cold season! of course, the part was backordered so we had no heat until almost the end of winter. also, the turn signal indicators were mounted on the fenders instead of the dash. pretty, but snow blocked seeing them, and the plastic lenses broke if you had to replace a bulb in cold weather. decidedly bad cars, both of them! (it seemed to me that 1968 was a bad year for cars in general.)

Nice article, thought I'm not familiar with a couple of the choices. I do think the list should have included the Gremlin, the Pacer, and the Ford Pinto.

It is truly amazing what junk a car manufacturer will produce! I just have to wonder what mess with they build next?

Actually, I had a 1975 Vega that I loved. It handled well and the 4 speed GT was plenty peppy for me. It achieved 130k miles and got 30mpg to the end. It finally succumbed to rust, though.

Some on that list are because of build quality/reliability. Others because they were mostly eyesores (Aztek). It's really a hodgepodge of a list...the Pinto, Maverick & most AMC products should replace some of those entries.
And I was surprised with the announcement of their latest recall that Ford tagged the Maverick name on some of their SUVs. I would think that would be something they'd rather let fade in the memories of car owners. Pretty much EVERYTHING Ford built in the 1970s was shiny elephant dung (until a year after purchase when it became rusty elephant dung)!

AMC Pacer! Now there was a hunk of junk, and it wasn't on the list.
