packard42: when they come out with a diesel engine in a 1 ton truck that gets 50 mph or more, I will be in line to pay the $50k for it. Esp. if it can be run on WVO or SVO.

until then, I'll drive my 16 yo 1 ton diesel... it may not get much better diesel mileage but it's paid for and tows just fine, thank you very much.

about time they dust off the designs for more efficient, sipping (not guzzling) engines.

You are right on, packards42.

Also, this new Pentastar V6 will make or break chrysler. It should get them caught up with the big boys. This should put them back in the game, big-time.

I hope Chrysler can import a small diesel next and break the 50 mph mark.

Perhaps that was true in your Caravan signwiz, but Chrysler's legendary Slant 6 and Hemi V8 (old & new) ARE great engines. With Chrysler's also legendary engineering, as opposed to manufacturing, the Pentastar V-6 could be a great one!

They have to do something... all of their engines up to now are notorious junk.

Neither Daimler nor Cerebus allowed Chrysler to invest much in drivetrains. Hopefully, this will allow them to regain some market share. Chrysler has been a leader in styling for some time. Reliability and durability will need to be addressed next. This new engine may help.

Lets see: Average of 25 MPG, plus 25% is about 31 MPG, I like to sound of 100 MPG, models should be out this model year.

Its about time and I really hope that it works. I will be ready for a new "300" in 2012 and the idea of an extra 25 percent sounds too good to be true. Now they need to work on getting the Dodge Ram with a Cummins better mileage. This they can do with going back to 3:54 axles and then going to a 20 inch tire. The 5.9 Cummins would be able to handle it and the new big engine could handle it very well. Wake up and smell the exhaust and the good things take over the mediocre. Until the get the mileage up on the Cummins I won't be buying a new one and I am on number three now.

The company that comes out with true fuel economy without the hybrid stuff & still be able to keep the horsepower up there where it is now will be the company that sells the vehicles...provided they're the same price or cheaper than the competitions same class vehicle & they have to look good too!

I hope the article was just a little too vague on the details and there is more to the story. Let Motor Trend test it and report the findings. I would believe what they uncover.

I don't care how efficient they make a 6-cylinder engine, it still won't pull my trailer. How about doing the same things to the 8-cylinder engines!

It is a time for change if a company wants to stay in business.

Will the change meet the needs today, is another question, which will take a period of time too figure out.

It seems kind of strange that they call it pentastar (as in 5) for a v-6. Is it like the Chevy Colorado's I-5? Maybe one cylinder is fake.
