Natural-gas producers fear rules blitz

The Washington Times -- With the Obama administration ramping up the pressure on natural-gas drilling companies, industry leaders fear a looming wave of federal regulations could strangle what has become one of the most vibrant sectors of the economy.

At least 10 federal departments and agencies are investigating or crafting new rules to govern “fracking,” the popular gas-extraction technique that has led directly to the creation of thousands of jobs in Pennsylvania, North Dakota, Wyoming and other states.

The Environmental Protection Agency is leading the way, and later this year will release its long-awaited report on the safety of the practice. Many analysts fear the study will indict fracking as unsafe and call for crippling regulations.

In addition, Interior Secretary Kenneth L. Salazar has proposed raisi

Obama is the problem. Even if his name is not in the article, anything that has to do with energy and reduce American access to energy is a problem. How are you going to heat your home? Lets crush another sector of US business and reduce economic output so we cannot possibly gain energy independence. Do something for yourself and the USA, DUMP Obama.

Slowtrain -- appropriate name --

On another note -- I think it's unfair that all you have to do is put 'Obama' in the headline and you get a guaranteed high response count. Let's have a moratorium on the use of 'Obama' in the headline and see just how much interest a story generates.

Many analysts fear...
For one, that would indicate that many analysts don't fear! Why not wait for the reports before attacking or should we let a catastrophe tell us these practices are safe?

We need rules to make sure things are done correctly. If you doubt this, just look at the coal mining industry! Hell, just look at any industry.

Of course the EPA will cripple fracking. Natural gas is way too cheap and having people be able to afford it on their own is not part of Obama's plan. The government knows best and you will pay for it.

Here we go again. Remember alar on apples, acid rain, EM radiation from power lines, even silicon breast implants and many other fears whipped up by vested interests (like lawyers, media, politicians, competitors, etc). Then politicians hoping to get on camera support industry and job killing regulations without any supporting hard evidence. No wonder we are fast becoming a second rate nation.

Natural gas is about $3/MMBTU.
Time to enact regulation to raise the price so the only people getting fat off NG profit is our government.

I hope they pressure these companies to not waste oil and natural gas in the process of extracting it.
