Oil, gas jobs at highest level this century

Times Record News -- Oil and gas employment in Texas has climbed to the highest level of the 21st century, adding 33,500 jobs during the last 12 months, according to revised estimates of the Texas Workforce Commission.

It also showed that the number of Texans on oil and gas industry payrolls reached a record of 243,900. The industry's previous employment of 220,000 was reported in December 2008. "What was already stout industry job growth according to the original data, turned out to be even stronger when the commission concluded its annual review," said Karr Ingham, the economist who created the Texas Petro Index and updates it monthly. With intentional closure of East Coast refineries, more (US and Canadian) crude will go to the Texas Gulf coast where it will be refined, tax free, and then exported, again, tax free. So the taxpayer will be on the hook for paying for any environmental damage (read: spill) but there is no ROI in it for the taxpayers. Just cost.

Pumpz - "Contrast to Pennsylvania where the oil companies are shutting down the refineries and laying off the workers, engineers, and chemists."

A lot of that is because the oil companies are working to send Canadian crude to Texas, where the refineries are exporting product, instead of to the East Coast, where they're shutting refineries down.

And the Republicans are cheering them on.
