Reuters -- The average retail price of a gallon of gasoline in the United States declined for the first time since mid-December, dropping 5.44 cents over the past two weeks, the nationwide Lundberg Survey showed.

Drivers in Chicago continued to pay the most at the pump -- $4.26 per gallon -- even though prices fell nearly 19 cents from April 6.

The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline fell to $3.9127 on April 20, from $3.9671 on April 6, according to the survey of gasoline retailers in the continental United States. Still, drivers are paying 3.27 cents more for a gallon than they did a year ago.

"The decline began in California about six weeks ago," survey editor Trilby Lundberg said, adding that prices peaked there on March 9 at $4.3162 and fell in subsequent surveys by nearly 15 per

The election is coming up, I am sure prices will continue to drop until December. Then we are in trouble.

At the station nearest to my home, a litre of regular gasoline retailed today at $1.429, then $1.414, to finish the day at $1.409.

The other story said we are paying less per gallon than a year ago. This story says we are paying more per gallon than a year ago. Which story is a lie? End speculation and any influence that the stock market has on gas & oil prices.

Doesnt surprise me that Chicago is still highest. Almost everything in that area costs a lot, especilly taxes. They impose liberal taxes and use it to enforce social liberal ideals, which are just as bad as social conservative ideals.

That is because in Chicago everything is higher. You see, it's not just the politions that are crooks and beyond contempt. The entire city and the suburbs are full of them as well.

While wholesale futures have experienced a slight dip, that is in no way reflected at the pumps. Those prices are still inflated.

This is ludicrous, the consumers are talking about the reduction of energy costs by dollars and economists are talking in terms of cents.

We saw 5 and 10 cent jumps for a gallon of gas in one day. They always take their time dropping the price and, it only drops by 1 to 3 cetns at at time.

Let's get gas in the $2 range then we'll start talking but not until after the election. Big money 'Bama doesn't need any help from the energy sector for his bid for a 2nd term... Man it hurts to type that phrase.

Big deal. A 5.44 cents on nearly $4/gal is less than 2%.
