U.S. not backing off as Iran sanctions bite

Reuters -- The Obama administration's man in charge of squeezing Tehran over its nuclear program is unapologetic for the difficulties faced by banks in their dealings with Iran since the U.S. tightened sanctions against the country.

Companies that trade with Iran are struggling to get paid and the biggest Asian countries are scrambling to work around U.S. sanctions that aim to deprive Tehran of revenue needed to develop its nuclear program. "I don't feel apologetic about it because that is the consequence of these banks in Iran willingly facilitating transactions for Iran's nuclear programs," said David Cohen, undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence at the U.S. Treasury Department.

"If they are going to do that, they shouldn't be accessible to the international financial system. The

Economic sanctions are not going to prevent their creating that bomb. This stuff has been going on for 3 yrs. Anybody see signs of it preventing a nuclear weapon? Talks are only for Iran to buy time to complete the project and they are laughing at the stupidity of our govenment bent on talking their way out of this. Good luck with that!

RON PAUL is a GOOD MAN.
OBOZO NEEDS TO TAKE CARE OF HIS OWN BUSINESS

John Quincy Adams on U.S. Foreign Policy (1821)

And now, friends and countrymen, if the wise and learned philosophers of the elder world, the first observers of nutation and aberration, the discoverers of maddening ether and invisible planets, the inventors of Congreve rockets and Shrapnel shells, should find their hearts disposed to enquire what has America done for the benefit of mankind?

Let our answer be this: America, with the same voice which spoke herself into existence as a nation, proclaimed to mankind the inextinguishable rights of human nature, and the only lawful foundations of government. America, in the assembly of nations, since her admission among them, has invariably, though often fruitlessly, held forth to them the hand of honest friendship, of equal freedom, of generous reciprocity.

She has uniformly spoken among them, though often to heedless and often to disdainful ears, the language of equal liberty, of equal justice, and of equal rights.

She has, in the lapse of nearly half a century, without a single exception, respected the independence of other nations while asserting and maintaining her own.

She has abstained from interference in the concerns of others, even when conflict has been for principles to which she clings, as to the last vital drop that visits the heart.

She has seen that probably for centuries to come, all the contests of that Aceldama the European world, will be contests of inveterate power, and emerging right.

Wherever the standard of freedom and Independence has been or shall be unfurled, there will her heart, her benedictions and her prayers be.

But she goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy.

She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all.

She is the champion and vindicator only of her own.

She will commend the general cause by the countenance of her voice, and the benignant sympathy of her example.

She well knows that by once enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication, in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy, and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standard of freedom.

The fundamental maxims of her policy would insensibly change from liberty to force....She might become the dictatress of the world. She would be no longer the ruler of her own spirit....

[America's] glory is not dominion, but liberty. Her march is the march of the mind. She has a spear and a shield: but the motto upon her shield is, Freedom, Independence, Peace. This has been her Declaration: this has been, as far as her necessary intercourse with the rest of mankind would permit, her practice.

When John Quincy Adams served as U. S. Secretary of State, he delivered this speech to the U.S. House of Representatives on July 4, 1821, in celebration of American Independence Day.

If you mean we're being duped as we were back in 2002, there may be some truth to that. Then, I recall claims of WMD from the president to justify going to war with Iraq. Thank you for your post. I'm amazed how short memories have become and how people change sides whenever the leader of THEIR political party ascends to power. It was George Bush who went into Iraq (With no provocation) on the heels of "9/11" when the American people were looking for someone to punish. He was looking for (as you said) weapons of mass destruction (WMD) which were NEVER found and was subsequently admitted to be based on "bad intelligence".

After all these years of fighting in Iraq (And another 10 years in Afghanistan), BO (The "Peace President") who got US out of the war in Iraq is now looking for another middle east war to further destroy our dollar and ultimately our country. This is a recurring theme with Establishment politicians, whether they are Democrats or Republicans. The poison is the same (Because it is still effective) and they have successfully co-opted the "Tea Party" movement and got them to actually support the ones who they opposed in the beginning!

Also, the MSM has marginalized Congressman Ron Paul who is the ONLY PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE talking about the real solutions to America's problems. Until we realize that BOTH major political parties are guilty and are like two experienced "con men", working both sides of the street, we will be used by these INSIDERS and will just argue amongst ourselves about "who" is to blame.

Okay, here's the earlier post about who is to blame for higher gas and consumer prices. Any discussion would be welcome.

We ALL share the blame for higher gas and consumer prices, because we have allowed our government to SPEND - SPEND - SPEND with no accountability. You cannot revoke the laws of economics, yet we seem to think that there are no consequences from this profligate spending. Governments raise money THREE ways in order to pay for their "vote buying".

1) Raise taxes
2) Borrow
3) Inflate the money supply

The 1st means in actually the most humane (Because you are paying as you go), but the one which is most hated, because it is felt immediately and can be correlated to the wasteful spending. It's easy to identify the problem and make corrections (Like throw the bums out).

The second only defers the problem to the future. That doesn't bother folks too much because it is in the FUTURE. Remember, you don't escape the day of reckoning, but rather just postpone it. Interest becomes an issue, like here in the U.S. where interest is the third highest item on the budget and the total debt continues to grow and grow.

The third way that the government raises money for their "vote buying" wasteful spending is to create money out of thin air, by having the Federal Reserve monetize the debt. This is akin to counterfeiting and would be taboo for you and me. Buy for those on the INSIDE, it's just the course of a normal day's business. It has the SAME EFFECT irrespective of who does the counterfeiting. Like adding a can of water to the soup when you invite an extra guest for din-din, it "waters down" the value of the money. So you can buy less goods and services with the money that is already in circulation. We think that the cost of oil and consumer goods has gone up, but in reality, the VALUE of your money has actually gone down. Unfortunately, the MSM is in on the con and keeps the sheeple misinformed to where we will blame the oil companies, speculators, greedy station owners, etc. Anyone will do, so long as the light doesn't shine on the FED.

Much of this is evident because only Congressman Ron Paul is raising this issue and the MSM is not bringing this into your living room. The other candidates are NOT mentioning this because THEY would suffer the same fate as Dr. Paul. Romney, Santorum, and Gingrich are part of the problem, which is why you will all be complaining in a few years about these same problems. Some will say: It's the Unions, it's the speculators, it's the housewife, it's Big Oil, it's the President, etc. But until the real problem is identified, it can NEVER be solved.

Iran just happens to be BO's scapegoat, even though he acknowledges that this war with Iran (Sanctions are just the first stage of a war) is the reason that prices are high. Your President is NOT concerned about you guys paying high gas and consumer prices. Did you actually believe that he does? Bill Clinton said that he felt our pain, but BO doesn't even make a pretense.

Just to clue you in, I will search for and re-post an earlier post which will enlighten the studious few. The remainder of us will just have to complain (to no avail) about high prices and argue about "who" is to blame.
